Night Fishing, Some Tarpon, and Bonito on Fly!

I'm really happy to say that I'm almost 100% after injuring my back (muscle tear) around Memorial Day.  I was laid up in bed, and missed out on some great tarpon fishing in June.  The tarpon are still here, but thunderstorms, cloudy conditions, and murky water has made things challenging.  The tarpon have been really willing to eat though (if you can see them!)  I've been running lots of night fishing trips for trout and redfish.  It has been by far the most productive trip recently.  Lots of trout of all sizes including some big gators!  I usually don't use a picture of myself for the fishing report, but I'm happy to be back after my injury (and it's a really nice fish too!)  I haven't been bonito fishing lately, but I've been waiting for them to show up.   Excited to hear that they've been blitzing pretty hard on some days.  Catching bonito on fly is a blast!  Also Capt. Clint Hood and Capt. Stephen Dailey have been running some great bay trips catching lots of trout and redfish on live bait and topwater lures during the early morning hours.  They've also been hooking some big king mackerel out in the Gulf and doing well on wrecks for grouper.  Lots of exciting things going on right now!  Book a trip and get in on some of the late summer madness!!

Warm "Winter" Weather Helps the Bite!!

Warm

This winter has been very warm to say the least.  So warm I had to cut my grass this week!  Well, the strange weather conditions are keeping the water temps up around 64 degrees.  This means a fish's metabolism is faster and they're moving around and eating more than usual.  I'm used to seeing a pretty sluggish demeanor in January and February, but this year is definitely an exception.  The reds are bunched up on the flats and we're still seeing lots of tails early in the morning.  So, the reds are presenting themselves in a fly fishing friendly manner right now.  Also, the fishing on the beach has been stellar!  Super flat conditions out in the Gulf this week offered up some fantastic bonito fishing!  We also saw schools of bull reds swimming over the sandbars as well.  Overall, this has been some of the best mid-winter fishing I've ever experienced.  Let's hope it warms back up to keep the good times rolling!
