We are very fortunate to be based out of Santa Rosa Beach which is conveniently located between Panama City and Destin, FL. The fishing in both the St. Andrew’s Bay system and the Choctawhatchee as well as along the Emerald Coast is world class. There are incredible redfishing opportunities over shallow turtle grass covered flats. Or, for the ultimate thrill, tarpon fishing along the beach in the summer. There are also explosive bonito and jack crevalle waiting to be caught as well. No matter what time of year you choose, there are several different types of trips for you to choose from.
Fly Fishing
Saltwater fly fishing on the flats is probably the most challenging arena for any angler. This is why it is such a rewarding and rich experience. Sight casting to a tailing redfish or a rolling 100 pound tarpon is so exciting that it seems to cause many to get “buck fever”. Don’t worry! We realize that many anglers may be new to this type of fishing and we pride ourselves on patience and great communications skills to help you get hooked up! Destiny Unbound guides are extremely experienced at working with seasoned fly fishing veterans, beginners, and children too!
Light Tackle
About 90% of the fishing we do is shallow water sight fishing. We can do it with a fly, and we also have the knowledge and equipment to get it done with conventional tackle. Light tackle provides a seemingly infinite variety of techniques and tactics to catch fish in a sight fishing scenario. Finesse casting a soft plastic bait to a feeding redfish, and watching him devour your offering in a display of frantic turns and runs, will put a smile on your face that will last for days! On the beach, it is a jaw dropping sight to see half a dozen jack crevalle fight each other to try and get to the lure first! We carry top quality spinning rods and reels on the boat. If you would like to use a baitcasting set up, please let us know and we’ll accommodate you.
Equipment We Use
Destiny Unbound only uses the very the finest fushing tackle made. We fish Sage, Scott, and G. Loomis rods with Tibor or Galvan reels (see related links). For fly fishing trips, please specify if you are a right or left hand retrieve so we can have the reels properly wound before your trip. Also, we use hand tied flies that you won’t find in any fly shop. However, we’re most proud of our 18 foot Hell’s Bay Waterman. It is an absolute joy to fish from, and can get you to places where no other boat can. The Waterman has the ability to slide through water only inches deep, yet still provides a smooth dry ride through rough chop.
