Holiday fishing on the flats is fantastic!!

We've been catching lots of tailing redfish on the flats on fly over the past few weeks. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we even had good luck in 30mph winds! The redfish are tailing really well during the first few hours of the day, and, when the water is low, they're crawling down the banks with their backs out. These fish that are feeding in 3 inches of water present a perfect opportunity to get out of the boat and wade. Sneaking up on a 10 lb red swaggering down a grass flat will make your pulse rise! This is the time of the year to be out on the flats sight fishing to reds. The beach is offering some opportunites to catch bull reds. This is a feast or famine deal. Ramon Zabriskie fished a day with me on the flats and caught some nice redfish with their backs out of the water. I told him to fish the jetties in Destin the next day and he caught bull redfish up to 47 inches in length all day! He finally quit when his rod broke. I fished the same spot the next day and saw a few bulls, but most were swimming very deep. Dr. Z hit it just right! You never know unless you go! The flats has been by far the most consistently good fishing. Book a trip and get in on some of the best sight fishing of the year!
Big redfish, trout, and Bonito time!

Recently, we've been catching some monster redfish in the bay on top water plugs. It's been a blast! We've also been having some good luck casting spoon flies at the marsh grass edges. There's also been lots of action for trout on fly under the dock lights. Bonito have been blitzing as well outside of the passes. When the water gets flat out there, throw a small blood minnow imitation and watch your backing begin to disappear! Fall is right around the corner. Can't wait to start casting to tailers on the flats!
