Cold Holiday Weather = Good Fishing!

Despite the cold weather during the past week, fishing remains very productive. The redfish are feeding very early and tapering off towards mid-day. Super low tides have been making it easier for us to spot fish. Half the water, same number of fish! Trout fishing is also very productive up the creeks and anywhere else warmer water can be found. We're still using the same flies (small nickle to quarter sized crab flies and spoon flies). Soft plastics have been the devil on redfish early in the mornings. Andy Coleman caught this 9 pounder today at about 7am. There was ice on the deck of the boat, and the fish where still tailing all around us! If you're down here for a holiday vacation, book a trip! Don't let the cold weather keep you inside! It's been beautiful out there!!
Winter Redfish Madness!!!

We've been having lots of cloudy, windy, rainy, and cold weather lately, BUT on the days when the weather has been nice the redfish have been suicidal! I don't know what's got into these fish, but I like it. Gangs of angry redfish crashing bait and lots of tails in the air have been a common sight on the rare "good" weather days. These fish are still spread out pretty nicely, and have not gone into their mid-winter schooling behavior yet. When the weather improves again, there should be some more gonzo days for sure. The redfish have not been spooky or selective as far as flies or soft plastic baits. So, if you want to get your redfish fix, now is the time!
